On learning to actually finish games again
I have a graveyard of half-played games on my phone. For years that felt normal. Mobile is built for the drift: start, get bored, download the next thing, repeat forever.
Reviewing indie games broke the habit, mostly by accident. When a game is only four hours and every hour is good, finishing stops being a chore and becomes the natural thing to do.
The Longest Tuesday and Tidefold Lanterns both got finished in a couple of sittings, and I remember them clearly because of it. The forty games I bailed on blur into one grey smear. Completion makes memories.
There's a lesson in that beyond games. The endless-buffet approach to entertainment leaves you full of nothing. Picking one good short thing and seeing it through feels better, every time.
So that's my slightly preachy ask this month: finish one game. Just one. Pick a small one. You'll like the feeling more than you expect.
